A track from my EP Ensemble de Magnac featuring original compositions for an 11-piece ensemble. Find more here on Soundcloud.
Listening is the entry point. Every stage of development has resulted in a musical style reflective of my influences at the time. From Charles Mingus to John Cage, to a host of mentors who've been guides along the way, I have been inspired to record some ideas that combine the practices of composition and collective improvisation.
Music itself is sonic, but these scores are the road maps - the blueprints that help guide the musical moments. That said, the internal dialogue of a composer and external exchange with bandmates often leads to modifications and 'improvement' to said blueprint - I've made some of them available here on Gumroad - for viewing and for sale.
Albert Einstein once said, "When you stop learning you start dying". I've been blessed to have learned from saxophonists, composers, arrangers, and improvisers such as Billy Kerr, Medad Ernest, Pierre Harry Erizias, Andre White, Mike Murley, Rémi Bolduc, Christine Jensen, John Hollenbeck, Nick Fraser, Tony Malaby, Jean-Michel Pilc, to name a few. Be in touch for some lessons and let the learning continue.
